Marina Seca Dry Storage
San Carlos, Mexico - Marine Services

The Marine Services in San Carlos are second to none in Latin America.  San Carlos boasts not one, but two world class marinas with approximately 700 wet slips, not to mention one of the largest dry storage facilities in all of Mexico.  Widely known as a safe haven for long range cruisers, San Carlos is naturally shielded from inclement tropical weather.  In fact, there is only one recorded incident of a hurricane reaching as far north in the Sea of Cortez as San Carlos.  During hurricane season, the dry storage facility is utilized by large boat owners throughout the lower portion of the Sea of Cortez, including those who normally moor their vessels in Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan.  Insurance companies require that these owners move their vessels out of the tropics during hurricane season, but provide an exception for those stored in the San Carlos dry storage facility.

Marina San Carlos

Marina San Carlos (www.marinasancarlos.com) is ranked as the #1 Marina in Latin America.  It is located in the heart of San Carlos and surrounded by shops, restaurants and marine suppliers. The older of the two marinas, it is also the most well equipped. The marina offers complete services for yachts up to 60 feet, including a gas and diesel fuel dock, 10-ton crane service, launch ramp, launch and recovery service, 24-hour dock security, bathrooms, shower facilities and parking.  Mechanical and fiberglass work is also readily available.

The 336 Slips range in length from 16’ to 51’ with fresh water and 30 amp electrical service and 30 outer bay moorings with dingy dock access.  Daily slip rates run $0.75 per foot with electric ($30 per day for a 40’ boat) and monthly rates are $10.75 per foot with electric ($430 per month for a 40’ boat).

Marina Real

Marina Real (www.sonorabay.com/Harbormaster.htm) features 356 slips with accommodations for yachts up to 63 feet. Marine services include a fuel dock, fresh water and electricity for each slip, fire safety devices, waste handling, and 24-hour security.  Dry storage, haul out service and a launch ramp are also available.  Improvements completed in 2005 also include a waterfront restaurant and bar, a convenience store, and a small shop that offers nautical parts and supplies.

Slip rates at Marina Real are slightly less expensive than at Marina San Carlos.  Daily rates with electric and water range from $0.40 per foot for a 40’ boat ($16 per day) to $0.46 per foot for a 60’ boat.  Monthly rates run between $8.50 per foot for a 40’ boat ($340 per month) to $9.50 per foot for a 60’ boat.

Marina Seca Dry Storage

Marina Seca (www.marinasancarlos.com) is the dry storage facility owned by Marina San Carlos.  The facility is close to the marina and offers hauling and launching services for boats up to 60 tons, de-mast services, carpentry services, covered storage, vehicle storage, and trailer storage.  There are also lockers and restroom facilities complete with showers.  The facility features unique hurricane resistant posts which prevent the “domino effect” in the unlikely event of a severe storm.

Storage rates depend on the type and size of boat.  Storage of a 40’ boat on a trailer costs $69 per month, however the same size boat on a stand would be $150 per month ($3.75 per foot per month).

Marina Seca also offers a transport service.  They will transport sail or power boats from San Carlos or Mazatlan to and from anywhere in the US or Canada.  The transport service uses specialized air ride suspension hydraulic trailers to move boats up to 50 feet in length.

Additionally, Marina Seca features a work yard and offers the following services: sandblasting, bottom jobs, blister jobs, fiberglass, upholstery, stainless & aluminum work, and painting.
